listen up

The rest of you probably know about this, but npr.org is a great place to listen to new music (and some old stuff). So go to nrp.org, click on music, then pick something to listen to. A box will come up with a music player and a playlist. If you listen to a piece, it automatically goes onto your playlist, but it is easy to delete anything you don't like. Your playlist stays active for seven days; if you don't visit it during that time it disappears, but if that happens (and it has happened to me), you can reload your favorites through the extensive archive list. NPR has LOTS and LOTS of the newest stuff, which is great for sampling before buying, or with the playlist, sampling instead of buying. I've had a lot of fun with it--it can be playing on the computer while I'm doing other things or sometimes I just sit back and close my eyes and listen to a piece of music and do nothing else. They have rock, pop, classical, jazz, and every other type of music you could think of. Their music page also has lots of information about current music trends and good new performances of classical or jazz standards.
